About Stan
Family
Stan and his wife married 44 years ago at St. James Anglican Church in Caledon East. Debbie spent 37 years there working for dentist Dr. Sylvia King. Debbie and Stan live on Mount Hope Rd, just 700m south of Old Church Rd.
Their oldest daughter, Kayla, teaches at Caledon East Public School. Kayla and her husband Kyle Godon were married at the Caledon Inn in Caledon East. The Godon Family now has 2 sons.
Their youngest daughter, Carly, is the Research Ethics Officer at Brock University, where she will soon defend her PhD research and publications. Carly and her husband Taylor MaGee have 3 children: 2 boys, and their youngest, a girl.
Career
For the past 16 years, Stan served as Trustee on the Peel District School Board. In this role, he served children, families, & school staff in all 16 public schools in Caledon.
Over these years, he was involved in helping land financing, building permits, and site plan approvals for the new Alloa Public School, the new Caledon East Public School, a new track & field at Humberview Secondary School, and the new track, field, & dome at Mayfield Secondary School.
Stan taught Psychology for 37 years at Centennial College in Scarborough, before which he worked with young offenders and adult offenders. He has 2 diplomas (Correctional Work and Recreation Leadership) and 2 university degrees (undergrad degree in Psychology, graduate degree in Education).
Stan is proud of using his local voice, representing the Caledon East community, to work with many government partners and teammates to get approvals for capital projects. Many of these projects impact students and families in the Caledon East area. Getting approvals for a new $32 million school is never easy or smooth. Certainly, the new Caledon East Public School (CEPS) for 650 Kindergarten to grade 8 students set to open on September 8th, 2026 is one super project right in our village.
After graduating from CEPS, students continuing on in the public school system will likely attend either Humberview Secondary School or Mayfield Secondary School. Both of those schools have a new world class 8 lane rubberized track, artificial field, stands, lighting, and digital scoreboard, and Mayfield’s field is covered by a dome - one that does not cost the tax payer or the school board budget anything. Stan was happy to be part of the public/private partnership discussions and agreement for that amazing dome.
Stan was happy to help lead the Caledon Public School Vegetable Garden Project for the past 4 years. This kind of project can only work with the help of many teammates. We are grateful for amazing local donors from Caledon East like our supporters at Davis Feed and Farm Supply, Glen Echo Nurseries, and from the Palgrave area, our friends at the Albion Hills Community Farm.
The Caledon Public School Garden Project had many successful vegetable gardens on the sites of our 16 schools. None were more successful than the garden at Caledon East Public School where students, families and school staff created a huge growing space. This was supported endlessly by many community partners, including Manager of the Albion Hills Community Farm Karen Hutchinson and her staff.
Volunteering & Life in Caledon
In his international bestseller Man’s Search for Meaning, Dr. Viktor Frankl says “when we give to others, we feel better about ourselves.” Stan leads by example and encourages everyone by suggesting, “if you have something to give - give it now.”
10+ years: Volunteered as a minor hockey coach in Caledon
4 years: Volunteered as a Big Brother in the In-School Mentoring program.
10+ years: Volunteered with the Home James safe arrival program.
11 years: Volunteered with the Albion Bolton Agricultural Society hosting the Tractor Pull & the Fall Fair.
Stan is proud to share his passion for volunteering, specifically for opportunities to give to a special place in our community and to his heart - Bethell Hospice. For the past 14 years Stan had the privilege of spending time as resident support for residents and their families. During his training all those years ago, he heard repeatedly: “it’s a privilege to be a part of someone’s end of life journey.” And it truly is.
Stan loves the Caledon Trailway and its never ending, picturesque, natural beauty. In the process of running 5 full marathons (26.2 miles/42.2 km) in his life, Stan trained for many hours running through Caledon East - out and back. This Trailway helped him complete the Montreal, Niagara, NY City, Boston, and Walt Disney World marathons. They showed Stan that he can get to the finish line.
Stan was honoured to receive the Paul Harris Fellow recognition from our local Bolton Rotary Club. This is one of the most prestigious honours awarded by Rotary International. The award can be given to both Rotarians and deserving non-Rotarian members of the community. Stan himself is not a Rotarian member. The certificate reads, “In appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among people of the world.”
